NATURAL CREATON
CHILDWOODS PLANTING 19th / 20th 2011 and other events.

'Childwoods' are small woods that are planted by children in which each tree is given the name of the child that plants it so that through their lives may see tree become a mature part of the landscape for all to enjoy. The Woodland Trust who donated the trees to Hollowell Parish Council through them to Natural Creaton, are now considering adopting 'Childwoods' to a national scheme which would be good for Creaton. The land for the planting of the three woods and communal hedgerows was provided by Highgate House and the Chudley family to whom we are very grateful. The three woods are situated in prime positions in the grounds of Highgate and are called The Diana Chudley Memorial Wood, The Viewing Wood and The Spinney –which is sited in a very public position on the junction of Grooms and the Welford Road, where an information sign is soon to be installed. All trees planted were indigenous, Birch,Hazel, Rowan, Cherry, Hawthorn, Oak and Dogwood. The trees may be observed by those who took part if they make prior with Highgate House.

The two planting days were a great success and proved that there is real concern for preservation and development of our natural landscape. Over the weekend 92 children planted over 200 trees and three hedgerows – in all more than 250 people from Creaton and local villages took part. We would like to thank them all for their enthusiasm and the Chudley family for their valued contribution. A similar event took place at the Hollowell Pocket Park one week organised by Barry Wenden of Hollowell PC. This was also well attended and a further 120 trees were planted and named as an amenity for children who use that park.

The Natural Creaton programme of free talks continues from 7.30p.m. Thursday Feb.2nd at Highgate House when Brian Laney (Wild About Britain)an award winning botanist will discuss 'The Changing Nature of' Northamptonshire which we hope is of wide interest to you all from other local villages. Highgate House bar will be open. Please come along.
In late March (date to announced ) there will be another free talk Highgate House by a member of The Wildlife Trust.

The November talk –also at Highgate - was well received especially since Tim Pankhurst–the speaker – together with Bernard Duffield, a musician friend, played and sang in the bar after the talk. They will be back- by request- for future events. We hope for the social aspect of Natural Creaton events to develop through such additional attractions. Natural Creaton will soon announce its future events and plans for in Bloom.
