Local news from the Northamptonshire villages of Cold Ashby, Cottesbrooke, Creaton, Guilsborough, Hollowell, Teeton and Thornby.

Background
Guilsborough Playgroup was founded in the late sixties by Lady Sarah Gibbs, originally it was run in the Village Hall, and then, as it grew we moved to the present Church owned premises. We are situated in The School House, which is currently being redeveloped to improve the facilities available.
If you would like to visit the pre-school please call to organise on 740461. We welcome visitors and if you have a skill or interest that you would be interested in sharing with the children we would be especially pleased to hear from you!
Today, the pre-school is run by our experienced and knowledgeable team of 9 staff, the majority of whom either have or are working towards NVQ and NNEB qualifications. The management of the Pre-School is run by our Committee comprising of parents of children who are either currently at Pre-School or have attended recently. Consequently the Pre-School policies are determined by the parents for the benefit of
the children. We have close links with Guilsborough Primary School which is located right next door and with Naseby Primary School.
We currently have 45 children who attend preschool and offer morning sessions Monday-Friday and afternoon sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Guilsborough pre-school development plan:-
Phase One - Works to repair the rear cloakroom and upgrade the heating have been completed and were funded in the main by the trustees of our building with a contribution from fundraising parents.
Phase Two - complete renovation of the toilets was completed in February 2007 to OFSTED standards at a cost of £5000. We now have three purpose built low level toilets, cubicles and basins and an new independent adult toilet. A big thank you to donated monies from Guilsborough Parish Council for £500, Naseby Parish Council for £500, Ravensthorpe Parish Council for £100 and all the parents who donated and helped
with fundraising events.
Phase Three - complete renovation of the roof (in conjunction with the trustees of the building) in the summer of 2008 at an estimated cost of £10000. This would include replacing any existing rotten timbers, removing the old thatch, timber treatment and renovating where necessary.
Phase Four - a new outside play area at an estimated cost of £10000. The existing crumbling tarmac would be replaced with special soft tarmac specifically designed for this purpose. An all weather shelter would be provided and some new play equipment e.g. climbing frame.
Phase Five - complete renovation of the kitchen which is anticipated to cost £5000. This would include replacement units, a low level kitchen sink for the children, new flooring and decoration and possibly a microwave combi oven suitable for baking with the children.
Phase Six - complete redecoration of the interior rooms.
On Thursday 24th June we held a fete to raise money for the school and orphanage in Kodi Kanal India.
On Wednesday everybody had a go at doing a part of a Rangoli pattern which we did at the front of the school. The pattern we produced was a peacock and we put sun rays round the edge.
The next day everybody cam dressed in wonderful Indian clothes.I handed out flowers at the front entrance. We then went into the hall and everybody said a little work about what we'd been learning, at the end we all did a little Bollywood dance.
The stalls were then set up and by the end of the
morning we had raised £450.00 which could by 22000 school dinners in India. We hope Kodia is well and uses this money.

Fantastic start to the new term Duckling's Pre-School
We were delighted to find out over the summer holidays that we had been successful in our bid for capital grant funding from Northampton County Council. This, combined with our other fundraising efforts, has enabled us to have our outside area re-surfaced with safety surfacing and to build an all weather covered area outside. We have also been able to purchase some new toys and play equipment.
We have also had our Ofsted inspection. We were thrilled to be given a good rating and to get some very positive feedback from the inspector who commented on the friendly atmosphere and happy children. The full report will be published on the Ofsted website in the near future. What a great way to start the new school year!
We are now open Monday, Tuesday and Friday all day and Thursday morning and still have a limited number of places available. If you are interested in a place for your child and would like any further details please ring Cathy on 01604 505 395 or contact us via our website:- www.ducklingspreschool.btik.com
