Local news from the Northamptonshire villages of Cold Ashby, Cottesbrooke, Creaton, Guilsborough, Hollowell, Teeton and Thornby.

In the annual football match held at the Guilsborough Playing Field, the firefighters from Guilsborough Fire Station were beaten 5 – 3, by a Guilsborough Village team.
The village team took an early lead through a deflected Dean Townsend shot, just looping over the desperate outstretched arm of John Bott. The Firefighters soon equalised, and then took the lead through goals from father and son. First Dave Kemp finished of a half cleared corner with great composure, and then Mikey Kemp scored with a blistering shot from the edge of the area.
The village then applied good pressure and equalised before half time with a sweet strike from outside the box from Luke Spencer.
Early in the second half the firefighters again took the lead with a great one-two between Ken Denham and Mark Hazle, with the later finishing of the move. However the villagers again levelled the match with a pile driver of a
shot from Matt Bumford.
With just 15 minutes to go, and the younger legs of the villagers still able to move, the pressure was really applied to the defence of the firefighters and a second goal each for Matt Bumford and Luke Spencer sealed a good win for the villagers.
The match which was played in an excellent spirit and enjoyed by all, although a little cold, was very well refereed by Maurice Barnes (many thanks).
Finally a huge thank-you to Kate & Nobby at the Ward Arms, who asked for donations to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund, as a means of payment for the post match food which they kindly put on at the Ward Arms.
