NEWS FROM THE MEMORIAL HALL

Cold Ashby Archive

What a fabulous turnout we had for our first Heritage Open Day at our café on Saturday August 30th. So many past and present villagers came and viewed our current collection of news clippings, photographs and other interesting memorabilia about the village. We are beginning to get things copied, printed, catalogued and laminated to preserve all these precious memories which are so important to our village history. Do keep looking in drawers and cupboards for any other items that you would like to share with us. We will be holding more events which celebrate our history in the near future so do watch this space for more information of future dates and events.

Sunday Café and Socials

Thank you to everyone who has been joining us for our monthly café and social evenings. The money raised at these events goes to maintaining the upkeep of the Memorial Hall and is crucial for the hall’s survival. We are very grateful for the support shown, particularly from our friends that don’t live in the village who attend our events on a regular basis.

CHURCH NEWS

Harvest festival and Supper

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Harvest at our communion service on Sunday 28th September and for joining us in our Harvest Supper and ‘Auction of Produce’ at The Memorial Hall the following evening.

The proceeds from the this event will be going towards the repair of damaged joists under the floorboards in the church, which have been the cause of some of the pews to sink.

Open Gardens

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual open gardens in aid of St Denys Church on Sunday 20th July.

August and September Events

Everyone is welcome to join us and residents’ support will ensure that we are able to keep these important village facilities open and provide opportunities for entertainment, social interaction and keep the village pool and skittle teams going.

Despite our visitor numbers being down a bit this year, probably due to the inclement weather on the day, we still managed to raise £2400 towards much needed funds which is vital to ensure the upkeep of our little church. So many villagers embrace the day and become fully involved either by opening their garden, serving the teas, manning the entrance, the church and the car parks, holding a stall or selling raffle tickets. It really is a large community effort and the PCC are very grateful to each and every one who helped out and to those that attended.
