National Theatre Live Screenings at Ravensthorpe Village Cinema

Ravensthorpe Village Cinema will be adding to their programme for 2025-2026 the entire programme of National Theatre Live Screenings for 2025-2026 commencing on 3rd October with “Inter Alia” and followed at approximately monthly intervals by ”Mrs Warren’s Profession”, “The Fifth Step”, “Hamlet” and two other titles yet to be confirmed.

As an addition to our monthly mainstream and cinephile films this will extend the range of entertainment readily available to our rural community.

As is usual for cinemas presenting NTL screenings, due to the high level of demand, we are advertising several months ahead of the screening date.  Details of the screenings and booking arrangements, including on-line booking, can be viewed at https://www.rvhall.online/cinema/.  To join our cinema mailing list please send your details to cinema@rvhall.online.

Hamlet – 23rd January 2026 7.30pm Doors Open 7.00pm Licensed Bar

Filmed live from the Lyttleton Theatre, this new interpretation of Hamlet has been described as ‘an active, pacy production that doesn’t pause for breath’.  Hamlet is portrayed by Hiran Abeysekera not as melancholic but as manic and impulsive, existing in a ‘posh, slick, morally bankrupt vision of a court that takes nothing seriously’.

A booking link and summary of extracts from critics’ reviews is available on the web site https://www.rvhall.online/cinema/

Broadway World - , ‘This is exactly the kind of Hamlet you would hope to see at The National Theatre. Challenging, entertaining, and compelling, it takes one of the most well-known plays in the English language and shows us something new.’

The Independent - ‘it does feel fitting that this Hamlet’s catharsis should come through laughter, not through mass murder. ……..in a theatre climate where showy, weighty revivals of Shakespeare with big stars and massive concepts are the norm, it’s a reminder that a lighter touch can be powerful, too.’

The Guardian – ‘Mills …steals the show with her astonishing portrayal of Ophelia’……….a well-put together, beautifully choreographed production but one with a frustrating emotional vacuum at its centre.’
