CREATON WALKING GROUP

Who says swings are just for children? The Creaton Walking Group could not resist the temptation when they saw these swings in Old! The sun shone brightly as the group walked through fields of new lambs and crops both growing strongly. Everyone was delighted to welcome new walkers and hope to see them again soon.

April’s walk was an old favourite of a 9-mile circuit from Welford to Sibbertoft including a delicious lunch at the dog-friendly Wharf Inn.

May was a new walk around Stowe Nine Churches with stunning views.

If you enjoy walking, come and join this friendly group. Meet at Creaton lychgate on the second Saturday of the month at 10am. Bring walking boots and water. Well-behaved dogs are very
welcome. Walks are about 3.5 hours and end with an optional pub lunch.

Next walks are on:

Saturday 13 June

Saturday 11 July

Saturday 8 August

Creaton Neighbourhood Plan

The Neighbourhood Plan has reached an important milestone where the draft document is available for public comment.

Within the Localism Act (2011) there is provision for
communities to shape their own future at a local level through the preparation of a Neighbourhood Plan. The Parish Council made the decision to move forward with this opportunity and the process has reached this point.

Following this period of public consultation, the Plan will be amended accordingly and then submitted to West Northamptonshire Council.

WNC will then validate the Plan, organise a further six week consultation after which they will appoint an Independent Examiner. When the Plan returns to WNC, they organise a referendum so that the residents of Creaton can choose to adopt it.

With important changes to national planning policy and local pressure on housing stock, this valuable document will give the village a voice in the future of Creaton.

The document is available on the Parish Council website:

To view a hard copy of the Plan, please contact:

Cllr Chris Reading, Lilac Cottage, High Street.

To give your comments, please email Chris at:

The closing date for comments is given on the website.

Over The Counter

I am told that summer is here, which I hope it is by the time you read this because as I write, the heating is on and it’s jolly cold in the middle of May. But, enough of the moaning as of course you are all enjoying the hot weather. So, fancy an ice cream? We have a great selection in the shop, including some that is locally produced. We also have lollies as well as large tubs for those warm summer parties.

And as you are sucking in the heat, make sure you stay hydrated. Again the shop can help with a great range of cans, cartons, and bottles of soft drinks as well as water - both still and that sort with holes in.

While we are feeling in a helpful mood, directing you to the cold drinks cabinet, move to your left and plan a barbecue party. If you cannot see what you want, or you want a large amount, we can help. For something not so red-blooded, have you tried the salmon we now stock? Quick to cook and versatile!

You can pre-order all your meat, salad and drink requirements. We have a wide range of beers and wines available to make your party go with a swig and a swing.

Then, as the warm evening begins to dim and you and your friends sit around the smouldering fire pit, you have reached that time when you ask ‘What would you do if you won the Lottery’. Obviously you have to buy a ticket first and the shop has all bases covered for that with Lotto, Euromillions and a selection of  scratchcards. Remember, it could be you! And when you win, don’t forget where you bought that winning ticket, at you favourite community shop.

ATTENTION!!!

Creaton Village Shop & Post Office supports local businesses and we are always on the lookout for new local suppliers. If you have anything you think we could sell, do come and talk to us.

VOLUNTEERS

As you know by now, the shop is a community shop and can only offer the level of service it does by relying on  the community to shop there and, when possible, to help out. We are always in need of volunteers particularly to help out behind the counter and currently we are also looking for one or two people to join the baking team. The bakers run the early shift, cooking the breads and pastries for the day. If you have a couple of hours to spare either during the week or at the weekend, we would love to hear from you. We are all quite nice - and it is quite warm in  the shop when its cold outside.

Friends of St Michael’s History Group

With one last event in early July, the 2025/26 season for FOSM draws to a close. It has been a successful year with a number of Creaton-centric presentations loosely or directly connected to St Michael’s 800th anniversary.

Topics included Northamptonshire Country Houses during the Civil War, The Iron Age and Roman Forts in Guilsborough, The History of Creaton URC and two talks about the history of St Michael’s. These all proved very popular and the March meeting about the Orland Family, millers in and around Creaton in the 18th and 19th century, drew in an audience in excess of forty, including a fair number of descendants!

The new season starts on September 17th with the AGM followed by a talk. The meeting will be held in the Church and will start at 7:00pm.

Creaton Feast

In one of life’s pleasant coincidences, a few days after receiving some pictures of the Creaton Feast of 1993 from Paul Pryor, I was asked by the Creaton in Bloom team if I had any old pictures of the Creaton Feast. And here we are. This is the helter-skelter, the one thing that almost everyone remembers about the event. It was an appeal on behalf of the Church and ran for two days in September on the weekend nearest Michaelmas.

Creaton Playing
Field Association

Charity No. 1085011

Following an appeal for new people to join our committee we held an initial meeting where some new village residents showed an interest in supporting the field. Subsequent to this we held  our Annual General Meeting at The Village Hall on 6th of May. We would like to thank all of the villagers who attended.

Our outgoing Chair, Rod Goldberg, thanked everyone  who has supported the field over the past twelve months either as committee members or as tractor drivers, work party members, litter pickers or both. Thanks were also expressed to our landlord, Cottesbrooke Estate, as well as Charles Matts for providing storage for our ageing tractor. We are also grateful to

Creaton in Bloom and Hollowell Steam for their donations in addition to everyone who put their loose change into the Creaton Post Office collecting box. This raised over £300 last year. A vote of thanks was given to Rod for his 19 years of service to the committee. No doubt we will still see him assisting us in the future when requests go out for help.

We are grateful to Lou James who has kindly stepped forward and agreed to act as our Secretary as well as Mike Durkin who has taken on the role of Field Manager. Best wishes to both of them.

We are still seeking additional committee members and therefore, if you value the field as an important village amenity, please make yourself known. It’s not too onerous!

Mark Woollven – Treasurer 01604 505534

Our tractor team have requested that you remove any unwanted doggy sticks from the field as these can damage the cutting gear. Dogs must always be on a lead.
